Hello FEMchess Parents, Students, and Coaches,
It was an amazing Saturday at the historic Mechanics' Institute, as the 2022 FEMchess/Hamilton Scholastic Chess Expo concluded with some amazing chess action, and half the participants were girls! There were 32 players in 2 sections and many were playing in their first ever tournament! The Chief Tournament Director for the tournament is our very own FEMchess’ co-founder/VP WCM Allyson Wong! Big thanks to Coach Kaelyn Dasovich for attending the event to support her student, Adalynn Forrest! Congrats to Adalynn for playing her first-ever-rated tournament! We saw many players playing brilliant games at the tournament. One of our very own superstar students, Rikitha Selvam, had an outstanding performance (winning 3 out of 4 games), earning second place in the rated 400+ open section and first place in the Girls' section. Rikitha went home with two large trophies, and her USCF rating went up from 695 to 764! Congratulations Rikitha!
WGM Jennifer Shahade, two-time US Women’s Champion, Director of US Chess Women, and author of "Chess Queens" recorded a very encouraging surprise personal video message for our participants. 18 trophies were awarded, and every player also went home with a beautiful medal! After the event, several parents and players expressed that they really enjoyed the event and couldn't wait to participate in our future chess tournaments.
Girl power is alive and well in the Bay Area, and we hope to keep promoting, partnering, and organizing more chess tournaments so that our students can participate in and grow and develop through chess, both on and off the chessboard.

We hope to see your daughter at our future tournaments!
